Summer fun

I know it isn't officially summer yet. Sure felt like it a few days ago! I have lots of photos of the girls swimming in their little inflatable pool. I will post soon.

Today we took the girls swimming at the YMCA. The girls have a youth membership but we decided it was time to upgrade to a family so that I could swim laps and we could all enjoy open swim in the big pool. We had so much fun swimming today. It felt awesome to get back into a pool. I know my competitive swimming and synchro swim days are over, but it was enjoyable splashing around with the girls today. I will look forward to morning laps and workouts.

We have our second private lesson on Tuesday. Can't wait to see how Sawyer does again. She was having a great time today jumping into the pool to Jim and I. At one point she didn't want to hold our fingers. Instead, she lunged forward and we caught her. I was so proud of her efforts. Sydney is working on swimming without a belt or bubble. I am so excited to see that she doesn't panic when she goes under the water. She just keeps kicking harder and harder. I would let her go and she would swim to the wall by herself. She is a swimming maniac. She had Jim and I chucking her across the pool. She would often come up sputtering, but kept asking for more. So proud of my little fish!

Private Swim Lessons

I signed the girls up for private swim lessons and the first lesson was yesterday. My goal was to get Sawyer some formal lessons without having to put her into the mommy and baby type of class available for her age group. She is far too advanced for that type of class, but also still a little young in age for the 3-5 year class.

As with anything like this, Sawyer would either do really well or would be very stubborn. As Jim said, this could go really well or this could go really bad!

To say that it went well is putting it mildly. She was a ROCK STAR! I know I have used that word with her to describe potty training, but really, she continues to shock me. She and Sydney were enjoying some fun swim time in the kiddie pool before the lesson. When it was time for the lesson, Sydy raced over (my little fish). Sawyer refused to get out of the kiddie pool, so I had to go after her. Needless to say, I thought, oh no, so far, not good. Once she got in the big pool with her instructor (with really no issue other than me having to get her from the kiddie pool), she listened so well, kicked really hard, scooped her hands and got dunked all the way under without complaint!!!! I am sure having Sydy there with her helped tremendously. Also, not having other kids around probably made her more comfortable to begin the whole process. Needless to say, the instructor told me that she is certainly ready for the group 3-5 year old lessons. After 6 weeks of private lessons, she will no doubt rock the group lessons! I am so proud of that little girl. Soybean challenges us in ways that we didn't have to deal with with our "chill" Sydney, but that is just her personality. Strong willed is a good thing, we just need to find ways to keep challenging her in productive, positive ways because that is when she SHINES!

Speaking of swimming, Sydney is now hurling herself into the pool! She has always loved to jump off the side, but always made me "chuck" her in (the second level ledge in the big pool frightens a lot of kids). I would toss her in pretty hard, but really wanted her to learn how to do it herself. After only one or two practice tries, she did it herself and is completely hooked. Now she can't wait to jump off of our dock to mommy or daddy. She reminds me that she can't do it until the dock is fixed!

I will bring my camera to the next private lesson. I figured the first session might be tough, but was I wrong!

Pictures next time!

Potty talk

To say that I was utterly shocked at how easily Sawyer Molly potty trained is an understatement. That good girl!!

When she first started using the potty she would tell me "no way" or "get out" (yikes) when she had to go #2. I quickly told her that those were not nice word and that she should kindly ask me to leave by saying "privacy please" or "I need some privacy please." So now she very kindly tells me when to leave by saying -

"Need some 'privaseat.'" I guess the word privacy is a little tough for a two year old.

Funniest thing ever the way she says it!
**This potty seat stays in the back of the truck always. I wish I had a dollar for everytime this potty got used!

Pictures for her birthday invite

I got a few cute pictures of Sydney the other night for her birthday party invitation. She did really well until we got to the train tracks. She was way too distracted and worried that a train was going to come! I tried to tell her otherwise, but there is only so much reasoning you can do with a little kid!!

The picture below cracks me up. It was her idea to hug the tree. So cute. My little "tree hugger."

Swim Lessons and Misc.

Sydney continues to enjoy swim lessons. She is such a fish...lazy at it, but still a fish. She has been wearing a much smaller floatation belt for a while. It requires that she work harder. Her new thing is wanting me to "chuck" her into the pool. I literally toss her in and she goes pretty deep and comes back up with big doe eyes, but asks for more. Last night at lessons I made her jump in on her own and she did great.

I have decided to sign both of them up for a session of private lessons. Sawyer is a little young for the 3 year old class but way too advanced for the younger toddler lessons. Initially I was only going to do private lessons for Sawyer, but the instructor said the cost was the same for one or two kids, so we decided private lessons for both. I have a feeling Sawyer will respond really well. It will give her more confidence in the water.

17lbs and counting. I am so excited that I have been able to change my way of eating without stressing. I give myself a treat every once in a while and often feel yucky after I eat it! I guess that is a good sign! My initial goal is to get to a total of 25lbs lost. Not too much longer.

I have two photo sessions this weekend so I won't have many pictures of the kids for a few days. Soon, I promise Aunt Jen.

Piggy tails

I put tails in her hair just a few minutes ago and I am surprised to say, they are still in. Just in case she rips them out, here is a quick photo.

Cake Pops

I was testing out cake pop recipes the other day in order to prepare for Sydney's birthday party. I think Sawyer approved of this recipe!
