We spent a few days at camp this past week and then a few day trips into Vermont to ski with Papa! We arrived mid afternoon on Saturday and spent the afternoon enjoying the nice weather. We ventured down the lane to the lake and discovered that there was barely a speck of ice on the big, deep lake! Just a bit of ice along the edges of our bay. Not a speck of snow to be seen on the ground! Strangest (and the best) winter in the Northeast! Papa drove in from Vermont to spend the evening with us at camp. I made a yummy dinner and the girls relaxed all evening with their Papa. Sunday morning we drove into Vermont to enjoy our favorite breakfast place. The girls picked out a new stuffed animal (a second annual tradition at the breakfast shop) and we picked up a few jugs of maple syrup (made right there at the breakfast shop!). We spent the afternoon at a local bird rescue sanctuary. The girls were completely enthralled with all the beautiful birds. We took a guided tour and the girls asked amazing questions. Jim and I were tickled at how interested they were and how insightful their questions were. We went to a local farmers market/local grocery store. Could have spent hours there, but we were on a time crunch to get back to camp to rescue the old dog and puppy dog from a long day alone. While Sawyer was standing at the baking counter with Papa, she asked me if we could buy a chocolate cream pie. Not exactly my first choice among all the delectable looking desserts, but I told her sure thing. Later that night, we cut into the pie, not expecting it to be anything special! Jim and I took one bite and couldn't believe how amazing it was! Not a typical chocolate cream pie. Needless to say, we wanted to drive right back into VT to grab another one. Must hit that market up again sometime this summer. It would be totally worth the drive!
On Monday, the girls and I drove into Vermont to meet up with Papa at the slopes. Jim stayed at camp to work. They had an all day ski lesson with one of Papa's friends who is a ski instructor at Killington (same instructor as last year). They did amazingly well. After the morning of skiing, we took a gondola ride up to the mountain top restaurant for lunch. The girls went back to their lesson for the rest of the afternoon. Jim drove into Vermont that evening so we could all have a nice dinner together.
Tuesday we drove back to VT for another day of skiing. Jim loved seeing the girls skiing. He did go last year, so he had no idea how amazing they have been skiing. They spent the day skiing several green trails!
WE CAN'T WAIT UNTIL JUNE!!! IT'S GOING TO BE THE BEST SUMMER EVER!!!
Adventures down our long lane.
Dancing in the afternoon sun!
The only sign of winter were these small patches of ice along our long lane. The girls had fun sliding across them. By the time we were leaving on Wednesday afternoon, the ice had melted!
Crossing a downed birch tree. They couldn't cross the downed tree all the way. And I thought they had good balance! Ha! Could have spent the entire afternoon finding adventures down our lane, but there are even more adventures down at the bay!
This is pretty much what our summers look like too! Kids swimming, finding treasures, digging in the dirt! They really wanted to swim...a few more months...a few more months...a few more months. I keep telling myself this...maybe it will go fast now that spring has finally arrived!
Looking at the crystal clear lake and wanting to jump off the dock! Mia dog was wigging out about something she saw at the bottom of the lake. Silly pup.
The only remaining ice on the lake. The edges melted the rest of the way on Monday during the warm up.
Reading a chapter book to one another. Sweetest girls ever.
They spent their down time writing books and drawing pictures.
