With all the sadness surrounding my family these last few weeks, I want to remember all the wonderful weeks the girls and I got to spend at camp this summer. Holding on tightly to those wonderful memories. They are getting me through these rough times.
We moved to camp over Father's Day weekend. Jim was able to spend the long weekend with us and it was great having him there to help me settle in and for us to have spent a fun, sunny weekend celebrating what a great daddy he is! Boat rides and fun!
Jim went home after the weekend but turned around a week later to drive back after his business trip. Our friends came with their three kids for the annual (third year in a row) visit during the last week of June into beginning of July. Matt and Jim spend much time fishing, but not much time catching! Poor guys. The water wasn't quite up to temperature. Tricia and I had fun hanging out with the kids. All the kids had a fun time swimming, searching for lake glass and plenty of boat rides! We took all the kids on a very steep, very beautiful hike. We ate wild blueberries and the summit and sat and admired the beauitful lake view. Then it started to rain. Fun times, walking down the steep mountain after a fresh rain. We all managed to stay on our feet. To many more years of the H family visits.
The girls and I had a quiet, but fun month of July. We loved spending time with our camp neighbors and the camp neighbor grandkids that came to visit. The girls and I went for our daily walk down to the beach to collect lake glass and to toss sticks to Mia dog off the dock. After our walks, we spent time doing worksheets and reading chapter books. The girls really did a good job sticking to routine. A quick, early lunch, and then down to the beach for hours and hours of swimming, frog catching, dock jumping! We also enjoyed spending time with several of our NY friends. Visits to their house and them visiting us at camp! Thanks for coming to camp with the girls, Julie and thanks for letting us come to your house to swim!
The girls and I took a fun hike with one of our camp neighbor's to a beautiful spot. I plan to take the girls on that hike every year from now on! It was that amazing. We anticipated a beautiful view of the lake from the summit, but the weather did not cooperate! We hiked to the summit and saw nothing but a white wall of fog. It was actually kind of intense and cool all at once. Next year, I'll see the view!
My parents were supposed to come for their annual visit at the beginning of August, but my dad had his accident right before they planned to leave. I was so scared getting that phone call from my mom about his fall. 7 feet off of a ladder at work, several days in the trama center, surgery on the leg to repair the femur, knee brace to take care of the injured knee. Another week or so in the rehabilitation hospital and then home. Two weeks after his femur surgery, he was put back in the hospital to have his gallbladder removed. We missed having them with us this year. I have high hopes that we will more than make up for it next summer!
During the week that my parents and Jim were supposed to come up, Jim came to camp as planned. Even though we were all stressed over my dad's accident, we had a fun week with Jim/daddy. Lots of perfect weather, boat rides, swimming and fishing.
Another set of wonderful friends got to visit us at camp. Jess and Scott came and we had a fun day of boating, rock cliff jumping (way to go girls) and fishing before Jim and Scott drove back to PA so they could both get back to work. Jess and I spent a fun few days together. My girls and her boys had a blast searching for critters, playing outside, swimming, dock jumping and eating lots of ice cream! Jess helped me pack up and clean up the house and we both drove back to PA on the same day. I left camp about two weeks earlier than I planned in order to come home and help my parents out. My dad was just getting home from rehab about that time.
I can't even express, in words, what an amazing and EPIC summer I had with my girls. I am in awe over their sweet and loving personalities, their love of nature and adventure. We have been watching these girls mature and become super independent over the last few months. I really noticed those changes at camp too. It made for an even more amazing time at camp for the girls and I. I cherish all the memories we made together. I cherish watching them change from year to year. 7 summers spent at our happiest place on earth, and each one gets more amazing than the last one.
Sawyer Molly was pretty tired in the evenings. It's tough being 6 years old and spending all day swimming and playing!!!!
Mia dog spent her days running, swimming, hiking and repeat. She also spent her evenings sleeping.
Birthday Girl got to open her presents with Mommy and Sawyer. We celebrated her actual birthday by taking a cake down to the beach and sharing it with our camp neighbors.
They read so much this summer. I never get tired of this view.
Helping Daddy make his famous buttermilk pancakes.
Oh, the ice cream. How we love our Stewart's ice cream. How we miss Stewart's ice cream.
